Dante Stavig

Dante Stavig, the visionary leader of the Norwegian black metal band Malediktum, was born on November 17th, 1963, in the picturesque city of Bergen, Norway. His early life was marked by adversity, as he navigated the challenges of growing up in an abusive household. At the tender age of 14, Dante made the courageous decision to leave home, seeking refuge and stability elsewhere.

Throughout his teenage years, Dante found himself couchsurfing among friends' homes, seeking solace and sanctuary wherever he could find it. It was during this tumultuous period that he crossed paths with Lars Ulver, the owner of his local music and CD store. Recognizing Dante's talent and tenacity, Lars offered him a place to stay in the apartment above his store, extending a lifeline to the young musician in need.

Under Lars' mentorship, Dante found his footing in the world of music and entrepreneurship. At just 19 years old, Dante was entrusted with the ownership of the music store when Lars departed for Sweden. Renaming the store "Inferno", Dante cultivated a haven for heavy metal enthusiasts, curating a selection of music that catered to the tastes of Oslo's burgeoning metal scene.

Dante's journey with music began at the age of 13 when he first picked up a guitar, drawn to the instrument's power and potential for self-expression. By the age of 15, he had formed his own cover band, eager to share his passion for music with others. However, dissatisfied with his bandmates' musical abilities, Dante made the difficult decision to dissolve the band, setting his sights on new horizons and creative endeavors.

It was in 1981 that Dante's path intersected with that of Blake Sawton, a fellow musician with a shared passion for heavy metal and a desire to carve out their own musical legacy. Together, Dante and Blake forged a powerful bond, fueled by their mutual love for music and shared aspirations for the future. Late nights spent listening to death metal albums in Dante's apartment served as the backdrop for their burgeoning friendship, laying the foundation for what would become Malediktum.

In 1982, fueled by their shared vision and boundless creativity, Dante and Blake officially founded Malediktum, embarking on a journey that would forever alter the landscape of black metal music. Their collaboration would yield a legacy of innovation, influence, and enduring artistic vision, solidifying Dante Stavig's place as a pioneering figure in the realm of Norwegian black metal.
